§ 86-331. Policy and objectives.

(a)

All appointments to positions in the classified service exceeding six months shall be subject to satisfactory completion of a probationary period. This is applicable to the first appointment and any subsequent appointment, but not to a rehire from a layoff list and certain reinstatements.

(b)

The probationary period shall be regarded as an integral part of the selection process and shall be utilized for closely observing the employee's work for securing the most effective adjustment of a new or promoted employee to the position; and for separating, demoting or reclassifying any employee whose performance or conduct is not satisfactory.
