§ 86-110. Demotions and reclassification downward.

  • (a)

    When an employee is demoted at his request or for cause to a class in a lower pay range he shall be paid at a rate which is within the lower pay range. The rate of pay shall be determined by the human resources director after consultation with the appointing authority of the demoted employee.

    (b)

    When an employee's position is reallocated to a class assigned to a lower pay range, the employee shall be permitted to continue at his rate of pay and receive merit increases to the maximum of the lower range. If the present salary is above the maximum of the pay range for the lower class, the employee shall continue at his current rate of pay, but shall not be entitled to salary increases until the maximum of the lower pay range exceeds that rate of pay.
